Austin Demographics
In an effort to measure, describe and predict the changing demographic characteristics of households as they flow through City of Austin housing stock, the City of Austin has a Demographic Portal that examines the vital demographic components of population and housing.
The portal illustrates that the City of Austin has seen drastic demographical changes sine the 2000 census. As of 2010, Austin’s population has grown to 790,000 and is expected to grow to over 1,000,000 by 2025.
From 1990 to 2010 the Hispanic population in Austin grew from about 200,000 to almost 300,000. In fact, in 25 years the Hispanic population in Austin is expected to match the Anglo population, if not surpass it.
The maps of the census data contained in this link illustrate these demographical changes. The Hispanic demographical changes from 2000 to 2010 can be found under maps 11-17.
