Celia Israel

Celia is owner of “Mission Resources” a firm specializing in community affairs and public involvement projects. In addition to service on the GAHCC Board, Celia Chairs the Alliance for Public Transportation and serves as an appointee of the City of Austin to the Robert Mueller Advisory Commission. Previously Celia worked as Community Affairs Manager for Lockwood, Andrews and Newnam in Austin Texas. LAN is a civil engineering firm providing key infrastructure projects such as mass transit; water and road reconstruction to various Central Texas municipalities and Counties.
Ms. Israel has more than 16 years of experience providing community affairs support in Central Texas.
By virtue of her active community leadership background, Ms. Israel is well known as a quality communicator, community organizer and advocate for various non-profits, community initiatives and political candidates.
An Austin resident for 28 years, Celia hails from El Paso Texas. Serving as an aide to former Texas Governor Ann Richards, Celia continues to be engaged in a variety of public policy issues in Central Texas and is happy to leverage that involvement on behalf the GAHCC as Chair of the Advocacy Committee.
Known locally as someone who just can’t say no to politics and one of those strange creatures who actually thrives on politics, Celia continues to be involved in local campaigns and progressive efforts at every possible opportunity.

Board Member, Alliance for Public Transportation – local non-profit designed to promote mass transit options and opportunities in Central Texas (2006 – present)
Board Member, GENAustin. School-based, non-profit serving middle school girls through empowerment programs and initiatives (1999-present)
Board Member, Greater Austin Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Advocacy Committee – 2009 to present; Chair, Advocacy Committee
Member, Robert Mueller Redevelopment Committee – Commission advising Austin’s City Council on the progress of the redevelopment of the former airport location. (2007 – present)
Board Member, Capital Area Food Bank. Regional food bank serving 21-county area; (2002-2009)
Public Member, City of Austin Police Monitor Board. Appointed by City Manager to Citizens Board to provide a community voice to oversee police department activity (1999-2006)
Co-Chair, AISD Community Safety Task Force. Appointed by Austin ISD to review procedures and gather community input after rash of school violence (September 2004)
Board Member and President, YWCA of Austin. Serving women and their families of all income range in need of professional mental health care services (1993-1995).
