Ed Gomez

Edward Gomez, formerly the executive director of El Buen Samaritano is now serving as the Community Relations Manager for Central Health and CommUnityCare health centers. This newly established position intends to expand the organization’s community presence. In this role, Gomez serves as the community representative for both the District and the affiliated CommUnityCare system of Federally Qualified Health Centers, and will head the development of all community relations programs. In addition to individuals and community organizations, Gomez also works in collaboration with insurers, community coalitions, and other stakeholders to further increase access to quality health care for all eligible residents of Travis County.
As executive director of El Buen Samaritano, an Austin healthcare and human services non-profit organization that serves a population similar to that of the healthcare District, Gomez was responsible for creating and launching new business strategies, fund development, community and media relations, among a host of other duties. In his six year tenure he oversaw the expansion of client services by 138% and expansion of its operating budget from $1.5 million to $4.1 million.
Gomez has over 28 years experience in working with Hispanic communities in Southern Mexico, Peru, Florida, California, Washington DC and various regions of Texas. He graduated from the University of Miami in Coral Gables Florida with a Bachelor in Business Administration in Management and Finance. He holds a Master in Divinity and Master of Arts in Theology degrees from the Graduate Theological Union at Berkeley California. He was ordained a Roman Catholic priest with the Dominicans in 1989 and later in 2000 was received as a priest in the Episcopal Church.
Gomez’s impetus is to serve as liaison between those that have and those that have less. His work has been bridging the worlds of business and religion, and of different cultures to make manifest social, economic and spiritual equity. This he has done through preaching, teaching, organizational and fund development and community relations.
“I’m truly proud to be working for Central Health and CommUnityCare. I hope to assist these organizations as they strive to provide healthcare access for the most vulnerable members of our community,” Gomez said.
