George A. Gutiérrez
George, a native of Harlingen, started his newspaper career in advertising sales and eventually senior management working for Gannett Co./USA Today in various markets, including Ft. Myers and Pensacola Florida (Ft. Myers News-Press, The Pensacola News Journal) and Gainesville, Georgia (The Times). He joined the Statesman and Cox Enterprises in 1990 as Advertising Director and was promoted to Vice President of advertising in 1997.
In 2005 he was named Publisher of the Statesman’s Spanish newspaper ¡ahora sí!
During his 34-year career, George has been instrumental in developing and successfully launching numerous newspaper and internet products such as XL ent., Technopolis, automotive, real estate and recruitment sections; Glossy magazine, ¡ahora sí!; and various online products including Statesman.com, Austin360.com, StatesmanJobs.com, StatesmanHomes.com, StatesmanCars.com and ahorasi.com.
This is his fifth year serving in the GAHCC board, and has served as Secretary, Treasure and is currently Chair-Elect. Other boards he has been a part of are El Buen Samaritano, Mexic-Arte Museum, Boy Scouts of America, Capitol Area Council and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Texas.
George and Sylvia, his wife of 34 years, have two wonderful children: Patricia a pharmaceutical researcher and George II, a managing partner at local night club.
