International Relations
The IB Center collaborates with the International Hospitality Council of Austin by hosting delegations from all over the world. The GAHCC shares its Economic Development vision and programs, connects visitors with its members, and provides feedback to delegation participants about their own economic development activities.
Austin-Saltillo Sister Cities Program
Saltillo, Coahuila, Mexico is Austin’s longest established sister city, this relationship was created in 1968 by an Austin City Council Resolution. Saltillo and Austin share a unique history as the "two capitals" of Texas. Saltillo was the capital of Texas when its territory was part of the Mexican state of Coahuila, before Austin became the capital of the Republic of Texas.
For several years, a regular pattern of exchange between the two cities has involved annual visits with a focus on government, culture, education, international business, and athletics. A Saltillo delegation visits Austin for Cinco de Mayo festivities (May 5th, a Mexican and Mexican-American holiday celebrating Mexico's freedom from France), and an Austin delegation travels to Saltillo for Founder’s Day in late July.
The IB Center participates in the “Mesas de Trabajo” hosted during the annual delegation trips to share international business opportunities for delegation participants and GAHCC members.
