Thomas “Tomás” Miranda

Cited as Hispanic IT Executive Council’s“Rising Star” in 2010, Thomas Miranda has demonstrated why he is viewed as such. Stemming from a PC business owner and entrepreneur to a Fortune 100 Technology Executive Leader, Thomas has built his reputation on his high energy, innovative problem solving, fiscally conscious and goal driven nature. Thomas approaches each new business challenge with an intrinsic flare for innovation, creative problem solving and calculated risk-taking to drive top and bottom line improvements.
Mr. Miranda began his career building, troubleshooting and supporting IBM 8088 PC’s in his youth and emerged as an entrepreneur and business owner prior to entering his formal college education. After earning a BS in Electrical Engineering from UTSA, he set out to nurture his problem solving and enterprising spirit in California with the innovative company that gave birth to Silicon Valley, “Hewlett Packard”. Leveraging his aptitude for emerging trends in technology and bringing innovative products and ideas to market was his green field passion.
Thomas has served in a wide range of technical and business leadership positions with increasing responsibility in design engineering, manufacturing, operations, and quality assurance under billion dollar business units within Fortune 100 companies such as Cisco, Dell and HP. He has been responsible for leading teams to deliver highly complex, cutting edge, often flagship products such as: x86, xDSL, LAN Switching and other innovative hardware and software products. From concept to market and across the ”chasm” for Consumer, Enterprise, Service Provider and Datacenter markets, Thomas has enabled business agility.
Thomas recently acquired his Stanford Certified PM certification and was chosen to apply his vast technology & business experience to lead a Customer Service Enterprise wide CRM business management initiative. This transformed Cisco’s worldwide customer service experience through the unification of CRM and other Call Center related technologies.
His business problem solving, collaborative and IT domain knowledge gained him access to Cisco’s Emerging Technology Group’s innovation team. There he co-founded the Employee Innovation Initiative across Cisco globally. Working with executive thought leaders and the “wisdom of crowds”, he built enterprise and depth to Cisco’s model of Build, Partner and Buy. This contribution by Thomas, inspired employees and eco partners to devise the next billion dollar idea.
Thomas served as Chief Technology Officer for Cisco's Worldwide Latino organization, where he combined his technology background and emerging business model experience to drive innovation across the organization.
Thomas is committed to his community and serves as the Chairman of the Economic Growth Business Incubator to help pay homage to his early challenges as a young entrepreneur. As a result of his leadership, he has helped inspire the development of emerging entrepreneurs in underserved communities by making business resources, talent and support available to those in need.
Furthermore, Thomas is an AARO 2011 McBee Fellow, and serves on the following boards: Greater Austin Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Austin Chamber of Commerce and Leadership Austin.
More recently he has leveraged the range of skills, domain expertise and networks to create a IT Solutions provider, Sparkovation IT, which enables businesses to solve small, medium and enterprise wide related problems.
