U.S. Mexico Sister Cities International Conference

The Greater Austin Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (GAHCC), in partnership with the Governor’s Office, will be hosting the 2009 U.S./Mexico Sister Cities International Conference from August 5-9, 2009 at the Sheraton Hotel located at 701 East 11th Street.  Originated in 1956 by President Dwight Eisenhower, Sister Cities International (SCI) is a nonprofit citizen diplomacy network that creates and strengthens partnerships between the United States and international communities.  The organization strives to promote cultural understanding and stimulate economic development.

The conference attendees will represent over 160 U.S. cities as well as their Sister City counterparts in Mexico. The conference agenda includes discussions keynoted by Hope Andrade, Texas Secretary of State; Rosalba Ojeda, Consul General of Mexico; Lloyd Doggett, U.S. Congressman; and Art Acevedo, City of Austin Police Chief.  The Austin community is invited to attend the conference in full, or register for individual breakout sessions a la carte.
