U.S. Mexico Sister Cities International Conference

The U.S./Mexico Sister Cities International Conference, hosted by the GAHCC on August 5th-9th, will set the stage for an international collaboration that encourages the mutual improvement of communities and economies on both sides of the border.  The GAHCC is excited to announce that the U.S./Mexico Sister Cities International Conference will begin this week.

“The objective of the conference is to share ideas and approaches for fostering trade and community support between the US and our neighbors in Mexico. We have been very fortunate in securing prominent speakers on matters of trade, culture, and education. We encourage residents in the area to attend and learn from these subject matter experts.  Not only will we have an opportunity to conduct working sessions with the attendees, but there will be ample time for creating new friendships at our two receptions and gala,” commented Andy Martinez, President/CEO of the GAHCC.

This conference will provide the opportunity to gain knowledge in a variety of topics such as NAFTA, Economic Development, Education, Cultural Arts and Municipal Services.  Featured speakers during the conference will include Esperanza “Hope” Andrade, Texas Secretary of State; Rosalba Ojeda, Consul General de México; Kyle Burns, President and CEO of the Free Trade Alliance; Dr. Raymond Paredes, Commissioner of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board; and U.S. Congressman Lloyd Doggett, just to name a few.  To register for the conference or individual events, please visit www.gahcc.org/conference

The conference agenda, which includes a strong line up of experienced and knowledgeable speakers, will culminate in a first-class Gala on Saturday, August 8th.  The Gala will take place at the Sheraton Austin Hotel from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. and will have entertainment from the Nash Hernandez Orchestra – Austin’s longest running big band.  The band was established by Nash Hernandez, trumpeter, in 1949.  Heading the band now is Nash’s youngest son, drummer Ruben Hernandez.  The band has been playing big band swing and Latin music for generations of fans throughout Texas.
