Join the Greater Austin Hispanic Chamber at the Capital of Texas Awards, where we will recognize high-achieving small businesses and organizations in the Greater Austin area. These organizations have distinguished themselves as leaders within the community and their respective industries, and will be selected by the general public. Voting begins Friday, April 4, 2014 so check back soon to cast your vote!

There are eight categories for nominations:

  • 7-Eleven Food & Beverage Award: any location where 85% of their revenue is from the sales of food and/or beverage.
  • Healthcare Award: any individual or organization that has distinguished themselves by providing healthcare services to underserved communities or has educated the community at-large on health related issues.
  • Univision Media Award: any media outlet that is used to deliver information or data via means of mass communication for the purpose of educating the community.
  • IBC Bank Retail Award: a store-front that purchases goods from manufacturers or wholesalers and sells directly to the general public.
  • General Motors Rising Star Award: a new business or organization that fits the general criteria and has been open for less than 2 years.
  • Capital Metro Services Award: any professional or trade service that is performed by a group or individual in which payment is received.
  • CapitalWirePR Nonprofit Award: this category is open to any local nonprofit that holds a 501(c)3 tax exemption status.
  • American Bank Technology Award: Any business that provides the usage and/or knowledge of technology.

Keynote Speaker: Javier Palomarez

Javier Palomarez is the President and CEO of the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC), America's largest Hispanic business association.   The USHCC actively promotes the economic growth, development and interests of more than 3 million Hispanic-owned businesses, that combined, contribute over $468 billion to the American economy every year.   It also advocates on behalf of 211 major American corporations and serves as the umbrella organization for more than 200 local chambers and business associations nationwide.


His opinions and points of view have appeared in leading media outlets including NBC, ABC, Fox Univision, Telemundo, The Wall Street Journal, Reuters, Business Week, The New York Times, The Washington Post, Dallas morning News, USA Today and many others.  Mr. Palomarez is a seasoned public speaker, delivering numerous keynote speeches and panel discussions for some of the nation’s most influential institutions and conferences – including the Republican National Conventions, the Democratic National Conventions, The Atlantic, the Milken Institute, the George W. Bush Institute, Ernst & Young and the Kauffman Foundation.

Mr. Palomarez has been appointed to the National Advisory Council on Minority Business at the Department of Commerce. He also serves on the FCC Federal Advisory Committee on Diversity, Comcast NBCUniversal Diversity Advisory Council, the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses Advisory Board, the State Farm Bank CRA Advisory Council, and will be joining the Board of Children's Medical Center – Dallas. Javier also serves on the Senate Task Force on Corporate Diversity and Inclusion and is a director of the Hispanic Association on Corporate Responsibility (HACR).

He has consistently appeared on Latino Leaders Magazine’s “100 Most Influential” list, and was named one of the “75 Most Influential Hispanics” and “Top 100 Green CEOs” by PODER Magazine.   Palomarez was also profiled by El Pais, Spain’s leading daily news outlet and was featured in the British Broadcasting Corporation’s (BBC) “Ten Latinos Who Made History in 2012.”

Event Emcee: Sally Hernandez

Sally Hernandez anchors the Emmy award winning morning show on KXAN. A proud Texan, Sally has called Austin home for more than a decade working her way up the ladder from news intern in 2001 to morning anchor for KXAN News today.

Sally has been recognized by The Texas Associated Press for her anchoring and reporting. She was also part of the 2010 winning team for Best Morning Newscast.
