Advocacy
The GAHCC advocates and promotes public policy issues that support small, minority and women-owned businesses and also actively participates in initiatives regarding education, immigration and health within the Region.
• In 2007, the Hispanic Chamber was a strong advocate for local MBE/WBEs, working with local Government, schools and transportation organizations on contracting opportunities for these small businesses. The Chamber also led the charge in addressing changes in the Third Party agreement with the City of Austin ordinance to include MBE/WBE’s
• Capital Metro partnered with the Hispanic Chamber in community outreach services on “How To Do Business with Capital Metro". The Hispanic Chamber hosted a luncheon, featuring Cap Metro head Fred Gilliam to provide the business community an update on Cap Metro regional initiatives and development.
• The Hispanic Chamber also hosted a well attended Public Safety Luncheon honoring Police Chief Art Acevedo, Fire Chief Juan J. Adame, and Deputy Director Ernesto Rodriguez with Austin-Travis County EMS
• In December 2007, the Hispanic Chamber, in partnership with the Austin Minority and Women Alliance and the United States Hispanic Contractors Association, hosted a welcoming reception honoring Amadeo Saenz, Jr., P.E., Executive Director of the Texas Department of Transportation.
