Greater Austin Hispanic Chamber Partners with Guadalajara to Advocate for the IT Industry
The Greater Austin Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (GAHCC) and its International Business Center (IBC) are partnering with APORTIA, a 12 member consortium of software companies located in Guadalajara, Mexico. This partnership will drive bilateral business opportunities between high tech Austin and Mexican companies.

The purpose of the agreement is to create a greater appreciation among Central Texas technology firms of Mexico’s  IT capabilities and affordability. Proximity, cultural affinity, educated workforce, and the current high tech investments are some of the factors that provide Mexico an advantage for expanded business opportunities with the United States.

APORTIA is an IT Consortium founded in 2003, through an initiative of progressive entrepreneurs and the state of Jalisco, with the goal of developing a world class software industry. Its members are all within the IT sector, and provide a wide range of services ranging from vertical software products to “nearshoring” services, which include consulting services. All APORTIA members have at least five years of successful operation in their respective markets.

“The Austin area business community has yet to realize that Guadalajara, located a short plane ride to the south, is at the level of other global IT communites already doing business with American companies” said Andy Martinez, GAHCC President. “At the end of the day, its about the true cost of goods or services sold; when you factor proximity, quality and cultural alignment our regional neighbors in Mexico certainly deliver on all counts.”
Activities have now started for 2008.
