History

The Hispanic Technology Institute of Austin (HTIA) is a non-profit working in concert with the Greater Austin Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and whose mission is to promote, develop, and improve economic conditions of the Hispanic Community in Austin, to provide technology and other training to the community and small business, and to address the digital divide.

Through GTOPs HTIA will be able to hire a new instructor, upgrade its computer lab and obtain a contract for lab maintenance. See Calendar for classes currently offered.

In May 2003, the Greater Austin Hispanic Chamber of Commerce established the Hispanic Technology Institute of Austin (HTIA) or Instituto Hispano de Tecnología de Austin.  The HTIA was created to address the limitations in accessing funding to develop programs in the areas of economic development and technology.  Establishing a nonprofit organization for the purpose of seeking and securing funding for these programs will enable the GAHCC to better serve the community and its members.

The HTIA focuses on promoting, developing and improving the regional economic conditions for citizens and business in the Greater Austin area with an emphasis on the revitalization of East Austin, and an investment in East Austin businesses. In addition, HTIA provides educational training to the community and small businesses in the following areas: community technology, literacy, international trade, business development, e-commerce, and MBE/WBE/DBE certification. Moreover, the institute receives, manages and applies for funds to implement the organization's initiatives and improve the economic conditions in the area. Finally, HTIA aims to bridge the gap between Central/East Austin and West Austin in the area of technology literacy.
