“The GAHCC has been helping to get people food and water, and through outreach and volunteering with local distributions, we noticed there is still a great need for diapers and wipes. In setting up the diaper drive with our fellow chambers, we hope to offer the community a few consistent locations to donate so we may then supply the ongoing distributions in the city,” said Stephanie Bazan, Director of Communications, Greater Austin Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
The recent winter storm in the Austin area has led to an increased need for diapers and wipes. All donations will be distributed to community members in need and people are encouraged to spread the word about the diaper drive and use the hashtag #diapersforATX.
The Multi-Ethnic Chamber Alliance (MECA) was developed by the City of Austin’s Economic Growth & Redevelopment Services Office (EGRSO) as a way to encourage the Multi-Ethnic Chambers to develop programs jointly, for greater dialogue, and to develop economies of scale. MECA members jointly plan, fund, and host three events a year as part of their individual city agreement. Annual events include a targeted industry-focused luncheon & forum, a career expo, and annual holiday celebration. It's members include the Greater Austin Asian Chamber of Commerce, the Greater Austin Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, the Greater Austin Black Chamber of Commerce, and the Austin LGBT Chamber of Commerce and while the Austin Young Chamber is not a member of MECA, they do work with MECA on shared projects. Currently, MECA has approximately 1,800 active members representing corporations, small businesses, non-profit organizations, and government agencies.
