Today, Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced new guidelines for re-opening the Texas Economy. The Governor said the state will take a strategic approach to opening businesses and will do it in phases.
Under these new guidelines, the Texas "Stay at Home" executive order will expire as scheduled on Thursday April 30th.
Once the executive order expires, phase one of reopening will begin. Under phase one, the following businesses can open at a limited occupancy (no more than 25%) on May 1st:
- Retail stores
- Malls
- Movie theaters
- Restaurants
- Libraries and Museums
Additionally, Sole Proprietors can return to work now.
This order allows these businesses to reopen but does not require them to reopen.
Phase two of reopening Texas could begin as soon as May 18th, which would allow more businesses to reopen and with higher occupancy levels. Phase two will not begin until at least two weeks of data has been collected and it is deemed safe to start phase two.
